Jungle Jim's International Market Jungle Jim's is the brainchild of James O. Bonaminio. As a child, Bonaminio sold dried cattails for a penny each, and washed golf balls before selling them back to the golfers. In his late teens, he turned to selling farmproduce first from his mobile truck, and later at a roadside stand. In 1975 he bought a piece of land in Fair field and built a small produce store on it. Bonaminio's friends knew himas Jungle Jim, and so the name stuck. For the next dozen years, the store grew beyond produce to embrace a full line of domestic groceries... The Growing Challenges But the competition is intensifying for Jungle Jim's. Since 2002, Jungle Jim's growth has slowed down. Revenues have risen only by 3.8% a year on average since 2002, compared with 11.4% from 1995 through 2001. With Wal-Mart opening its store in Cincinnati, conventional retailers have been permanently lowering prices on everyday items and promoting their new competitive prices. Wal-Mart Stores and Meijer have plans formore supercenters (superstores) in the area.
